I picked up this 1966 3 ply mahogany poplar /mahogany Ludwig marching snare with wood hoops for 25.00 . It was in bad shape and bearing edges were beat so I cut it down to a 6.5 x14 , carefully took out re-ring and re-glued. Routed a 45 degree inside and 1/8 round-over on the outside and all went flawless. So the question is do I drill for 6, 8, or 10 lugs and why ? I have a set of 60s 10 lug hoops so Im leaning that way. Ill post the finished drum here very soon.
