I plan to use this page to share my own thoughts and ideas with the public. I believe a top priority of our elected officials and Administration must include rebuilding confidence with our citizens. I am in complete agreement that we need to address our infrastructure problems and implement a comprehensive economic development plan. However, I believe we will not be on solid ground until our city government does the hard work of rebuilding the trust of our citizenry. They will absolutely not put more skin in the game willingly, unless they trust the people in office. So to that end, I believe the following steps should be taken immediately after the election, 1. The Mayor should survey by mail every household asking very pointed questions, including how the public perceives the priorities of our city government currently, what they believe our priorities should be, and a set of questions geared toward finding out what they would like Louisiana to look like in 5 years, 10 years, and so on. The citizens need to hear from us on issues that do not involved water safety, taxes, and bills. We need to know what they are thinking and they need to feel like we care what they are thinking. 2. The Mayor needs to do what the Mayor of Clarksville does, and submit an article to the paper regularly to inform the public on issues pertinent to the City. 3. We need to create an email database (a great time would be when people come in to pay taxes and sign up for water/sewer, etc) so that we can send out mass communications when we want or need to reach large numbers of our citizens. 4. We need to utilize social media to reach our citizens. Creating good will and trust must be top priority. We need to utilize the data we receive from our citizens in moving forward. Even surveys not returned send a message. When our citizens see that we are serious, and it will take time, they will get on board with our economic revitalization plan. Stay tuned for more of what I believe our plan should be moving forward. Whether I am elected or not, there is work to be done and I hope the winning candidates will take my thoughts and ideas into consideration.
