I posted a Remembrance Day post here and had 1 Labor troll trying to hijack it to score political points. He showed no respect for the fallen, for the families that still cry for them and no acknowledgement for their sacrifice to help keep this country free. No surprises then that a one time Labor PM, Paul Keating showed the same disrespect when he gave the Remembrance Day address at the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier this past Monday. Paul Keating disgraced himself and this nation when he referred to our diggers as witless “cannon fodder” who had “little or no choice” about going to war. He used what was supposed to be an acknowledgment of their ultimate sacrifice to protect this country, into a rant about his views of war. It wasnt the place nor time. Go and stand in some town square to voice your opinion but dont do it on the one day we honour our fallen. Keating portrayed them as fools and ignorants and objectified them. He also is not up on history because our force was a volunteer one little or no choice is misplaced. Keating also said that young Australians today were smarter implying that those diggers that died were idiots. “Young Australians … can no longer be dragooned en masse into military enterprises of the former imperial variety on the whim of so-called statesmen. They are fortunately too wise to the world to be cannon fodder of the kind their young forebears became: young innocents who had little or no choice,” said Keating. Is Keating saying that our soldiers in Afghanistan are dumb hicks? What a shameful disgrace. Brendon Nelson, head of the War Memorial, should resign. First he ordered to remove the words, “Known Unto God” from the Unknown Soldier’s tomb and replace them with stupid Keating quotes from his speech at the site in 1993, until Tony Abbott stepped in. Brendan Nelson will still inscribe that Keating quote on some plague, We do not know this Australians name, we never will ... He is one of them, and he is all of us. What the hell does that mean? Resign Mr Nelson. Your insistence to elevate Keating has disgraced the memory of our fallen Read Miranda Devines opinion here: blogs.news.au/dailytelegraph/mirandadevine/index.php/dailytelegraph/comments/let_us_forget_paul_keating/
