I posted a piece about Hillarys Terry Gross interview a few days ago. I suspect that this is going to come back to haunt Hillary if she does, as expected, runs for the Presidency. (If she doesnt run I suspect all hell will break loose). You would have thought that she - and her phalanx of political advisers - would have seen this coming and come up with a better answer. Nate Silver runs the numbers on Hillarys cohort - liberal, rich, white, Protestant women - and finds that anywhere between 70 and 90 percent of them supported gay marriage over a decade before Hillarys evolution. Of course, statistics dont apply to individuals in this manner, and Hillary is certainly unique, but its going to be very hard for her to shake off the impression that this wasnt a calculated, and conservative, political move on her part. And in a post-Eich/Mozilla world, while it probably wont stop the base voting for her, it means shell have much less reserve goodwill than she would otherwise have had.
