I posted the following to Lee Chapels FB page....and their canned response {{{smh}}} “Their ancestors fought for their freedom. Their grandparents fought for their civil rights. What is this generation of blacks fighting for?” I saw this comment posted in response to a black teenager beating up and knocking his mother out cold. Sadly, there is a segment in the black race that is going around the country and crying, “I’m offended” at everything white and everything southern……with cowardly whites kowtowing to every little ridiculous complaint about such imagined offenses. “What is this generation of blacks fighting for?” Perhaps they are nothing more than a bunch of people with not a chip on their shoulder, but a boulder on their shoulder. The sense of their entitlement and everyone owes them something is beyond pathetic. History is history and until people learn that we MUST REMEMBER AND PRESERVE ALL history in order to know what has and does make this country and world tick, this country and world will continue its downward spiral. WAKE UP PEOPLE! Lee Chapel canned response: Eileen - thank you for following Lee Chapel. To send comments to Washington & Lee concerning the flags, please use this email: [email protected] Thank you! Eileen wrote: I recently visited the Chapel and was confronted by your tour guides lack of education. When I was speaking about Lee, your elderly female tour guide cut me off and said Lincoln was a great man who only wanted peace for the north and south. Well, I stopped talking to this delusional and obviously, very uneducated female and moved on. Then to be told by a young male tour guide when he was speaking to me, my daughter and a couple from Australia in front of Lee’s portrait, that Lees ONLY reason to surrender was so he could get his US Citizenship back. REALLY???? Well, that completely throws any and all credibility out the window for the staff, both paid and unpaid at W & L, out the window. It’s time each of you learns the truth and stop perpetuating the lies and propaganda! Here’ some facts: Lee sent an application to Grant and wrote to President Johnson on June 13, 1865: “Being excluded from the provisions of amnesty & pardon contained in the proclamation of the 29th Ulto; I hereby apply for the benefits, & full restoration of all rights & privileges extended to those included in its terms. I graduated at the Mil. Academy at West Point in June 1829. Resigned from the U.S. Army April 61. Was a General in the Confederate Army, & included in the surrender of the Army of N. Va. 9 April 65.” Sadly, and mysteriously, this application was “lost” while in the hands of the Yankees. In 1970, an archivist at the National Archives “discovered” Lee’s Amnesty Oath. Apparently Secretary of State Wm. H. Seward had given Lee’s application to a friend as a souvenir, and the State Department had shelved the oath. An oversight or perhaps it was simply more of the same despicable and deplorable actions by the Yankees? In 1975, Lees full rights of citizenship were posthumously restored by a joint congressional resolution effective June 13, 1865. It is time to stop the lies and attacks on the South and the Confederacy. It’s time for all of you to learn the truth! Too many look at pictures and listen to propaganda because they are too lazy to do their own research or to read factual documents. I would hope and pray you take this information back to those who head the Chapel and educate their tour guides……the young man that spoke those lies? He looked straight into my eyes and swallowed very hard when he spoke those words. He knew he was speaking lies and couldn’t do so without almost choking. The elderly women’s comments, well, explain to her what proper and professional manners are…something we know all about in the south. You do not interrupt anyone. Let others speak; do not cut them off; do not for one minute think they can fool anyone with what amounts to comments that are anything but factual. You have a very educated public out there that knows the truth; that knows the facts; that knows the propaganda of the Yankees being spewed. What should have been a pleasant and enjoyable visit to Lee’s Chapel, turned into one where I simply walked out. Regarding the highly suspect removal of flags, it’s called “Lee’s Chapel”, not “The Committee’s Chapel.” Lee Chapel is sacred ground as it is a burial ground. How dare anyone desecrate a man’s final resting place! “The Committee” was offended by the flags? Time they put their big boy and big girl panties on don’t you think?
