I posted this on another post as an answer to someones question, but Im posting again for all to be informed: The Supervisor of Elections is not managing the City Candidates process because BOB BROWN has elected to do it himself. They started this in 2010, although he said during the meeting that they have been doing it 8-9 years. He likes to fudge things. As the City is its own municipality, they are within their rights to do this (hold their own elections). However, they do not the handle the entire election process. They have elected to only oversee the qualifying of the City Candidates. Then the candidate names are passed on to the Supervisor of Elections where the County then absorbs the cost of the City Elections. In section 2.02 (B) the City Charter states that the City Council shall have sole discretion in determining whether or not candidates have met the qualifications for election to the Council. They claimed they could not verify William C. Sadler Sr. address so they disqualified him. Florida Statute states that the Qualifying Officers job is ministerial only. They are to make sure the papers are filled out on their face, and they are signed and dated. Candidates sign a sworn oath of their accuracy. Someone would then have to challenge their accuracy in a court of law if they thought them to be untrue. Section 9.08 of the City Charter states Where not inconsistent, or in conflict with specific provisions of this Charter; the general law of this state, and the state law references in this Charter, shall be deemed to be a part of this Charter; and this municipality, its officers and employees shall be governed thereby. So, basically it is illegal what they are doing. Whose gonna do something about it?
