I posted this on my Facebook page on 4th July and got a lot of likes, thought i would share the post with everyone, its a long interesting read about The History of Palestine for Muslims, Jews, Christians and other Faiths to reflect on. What is 4th July and a lesson to learn for The Zionist in Israel on how Muslims treated The Jewish People. USA as most of us know its Independence Day July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain but what is this date July 4th for The People of Palestine? We going back now July 4th 1187 this was the mark of Salahuddin when he recaptured Jerusalem at The Battle of Hattin, it was the time of the Crusades. Salahuddin was vizier-sultan-caliph of Egypt and he united the Muslims from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. For the first time in history, the Kingdom of Jerusalem was encircled by Muslim territory united under one ruler and during his rule, the Holy City enjoyed relative peace for Muslim, Christian, and Jews and also before the Crusades the People were living in Peace under the rule of Umar (ra) for centuries, the great companion of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Salahuddin had to be a good Muslim to accomplish this and what attests to this fact is that his praises are sung not only among Muslims but also among Christians chroniclers. If you know nothing about him and don’t want to read the history books, check out Ridley Scotts (Director of Gladiator, Deja Vu) Hollywood blockbuster, Kingdom of Heaven It’s actually surprisingly historically accurate. It will give you a glimpse, but only a glimpse, into this noble man’s character. He won the respect of many of his enemies and a great hero and an example to rest of the world. Although one would expect Salahuddin to be hated among the Crusader nations, he became one of the most esteemed Muslim figures because of the generosity he displayed towards the Christians despite the brutality Muslims had endured at the hands of the Crusaders. When the Christians had overtaken Jerusalem during the very first Crusade, they carried out mass atrocities and killings, creating a bloodbath in which the Muslim residents were the most prominent targets as well as the Jews, as graphically documented in the PBS series Islam: Empire of Faith. In the words of the chronicler of Crusades, Raymond of Agiles, the massacre was so extensive that the Crusaders “rode in blood up to their knees and bridle reins.” When Salahudddin retook Jerusalem, the Christians waited for a similar onslaught. However, Salahuddin not only spared the Christians but treated them honourably, allowing those who wished to leave to do so in peace, and for those who wished to stay to do so in harmony. Truly, he was a living example of the tolerant, progressive, and inclusive faith which was so dear to his heart and by showing restraint and peaceful treatment, he invited the Jews and Christians back into Jerusalem. Salahuddin was upholding the central tenets of Islam such as freedom of religion and protection of non-Muslims. Its been a declining era after the british captured Jerusalem in 1917 and after World War 2 when nobody would give the Jews hospitality in Europe and the British government gave them illegal occupation with the United Nations and soon after 700,000 Palestinians were driven away from home and thousands children and women killed and War between the Jews and Arabs has never stopped. We made history again and bloodbath continues. We think we are a nation that brings peace but looking at all the countries we have been involved in recently we have just brought destruction and famine to mankind. On the 4th of March, in 1193, Salahuddin’s life on earth came to an end. Though he was the most powerful and successful Muslim ruler of his era, he died with only one gold piece and 47 silver pieces to his name. This was not even enough money to pay for his burial. He instead used his money to pay off others’ debts and give charity. This was Salahuddin, an example for all of us to learn from, may Allah be pleased with him. He lived the golden rule: Treat others as you would have them treat you. May we all—whether Muslim, Christian, or Jew—learn from his beautiful example in how to live the good life and we pay our respect to the great Sultan in the city of his resting place in Damascus Syria. Israel needs a leader that represents The People of The Book or we need the likes of Salahuddin or like The Muslim leaders in the past or The Future of Israel and Palestine can never be resolved. We will continue our efforts even if its small to Free Palestine from the Zionist Oppressors. #DriveForJustice Faizal.
