I posted this photo before. A group of wanna be writers and potters lived in the basement. For the most part they were on the cusp between being Beats or Hippies. Some straddled the opposing forces for some time until one, who work CNR passenger service, came home from Vancouver with the debut album Freak Out by The Mothers OF Invention. The record had not arrived commercially in Winnipeg. It was not even on sale at Opus Records On Kennedy. When Dean put the album of the turntable the room divided like the Red Sea. Half the room retreated into the hutch of Beathood and others immediately went out abd replaced their black turtlenecks with floral blouses and beads.
