I posted this to Ubers timeline. Please help me in my fight for justice. Dear Uber, First off I want to thank you. I am a frequent user of yours and I value the reliability of your drivers and the expediency of your service. No one can beat your rates. Your frugal fare has made you ubiquitous worldwide. Since I downloaded your app as a sophomore in college I have long applauded the commendable rates you are known for. That all changed an hour ago when I requested an Uber to the Istanbul airport. 140 Turkish Lyra, which is the equivalent of 70 US dollars. 70. U.S. Dollars. For a 10 minute ride. When I requested to see the price after, and noticed I had been charged 70 US dollars for less time than it takes me to listen to 3 Ariana Grande songs, I thought I had developed a stigmatism. Had my elementary school teachers lied about my 20/20 vision? Had my eyes deceived me? No. They hadnt. The 10 minute ride cost 70 US dollars. And I still had 20/20 vision, in addition to 0/0 checking balance. Due to the unrest of Turkeys neighbors and recent instances of extremists rendezvousing to Istanbul, my mom was justifiably nervous for me to visit here during my study abroad. I assured her I would act responsibly and travel safely. I would use UBER. Theyre safe, theyre reliable, theyre economical for a college student. Not so. Our driver drove at the average speed of 90 miles per hour, disregarded lane lines and almost caused numerous collisions. On top of that, he rated himself 5 stars. A for effort, F for customer trauma. Again, I chose Uber in Istanbul because I had thought you would be the more reasonable and safer option to other car services. In my attempt to convey my anger in this message, I imbued it with a little humor because I figured, Hey, Im sure they get tons of these. Might as well make it an interesting read. Nonetheless, I am infuriated, and hurt. I cant count how many times my friends and I have chosen you. And how dependable you have been. I understand that rates vary city to city and time to time, but 70 dollars for a 10 minute, reckless ride to the airport adds insult to injury. Perhaps next time I need a Lyft to the airport, or anywhere for that matter, Ill explore my options.
