I purchased a 1968 Porsche 912 RSR clone it was advertised as a numbers matching car, no rust & the engine, transmission, brakes and almost everything else was rebuilt. in the last 5 years. He said he spent over $22,000 in repairs. The car being in Seattle, Wa. & I am living in California had the car inspected by a 3rd party. The inspection uncovered rust which I accepted, but nothing else was mentioned. When the car was delivered it would not start & when I got it running it ran poorly. The transmission had so much play in it you could not drive the car. When I started to inspect the car I found no turn signals, brake lights, tail lights & windshield wipers not working. In addition the alarm could not be shut off. With the car came all the paperwork showing repairs done on the car. in those papers was a receipt for a engine block that the previous owner bought. (now i wonder if the car is matching numbers) I am having Porsche research the numbers for me.The rebuilding of everything did not take place 5 years ago but 19 years ago. The mileage was the same in 1995 as it is on the car now. The moral of this tale is to personally check out the car yourself even if it cost you money to do so, it will save you a lot of grief in the long run. I will now have to sort our all these electrical problems which I was not counting on.
