I purged and “Unfriended” over 40 people from my FB friend list this morning. If you’re a bigot you didn’t make the cut. If you’re a racist you didn’t make the cut. If you’re so locked into your political ideology (left or right) that you can’t treat opposing views with civility and respect you didn’t make the cut. If you’re so locked into your religious beliefs that you can’t accept the beliefs of others you didn’t make the cut. If you’re a business you didn’t make the cut. If you’re a cyber-bully you didn’t make the cut. If you’re a know-it-all who knows nothing you didn’t make the cut. If you’ve shown little to no interest in staying in touch you didn’t make the cut. If you’ve basically written me off I am reciprocating. This is long overdue on my part, but I’m tired of wasting my time with people who just want to create trouble, foment hate and intolerance and fear, and who appear to revel in drama. I would encourage my fellow FB friends to do the same for their own peace of mind. 40 represents about 1/3 of my total FB relationships. If I introduce that kind of angst into your life please feel free to “Unfriend” me too. The friends I have left represent the left and the right, and many different religious persuasions. What you all have in common is a sense of decency, tolerance, open mindedness, intelligence, and a kind heart. You embrace the notion of civil discourse even when you have differing opinions and beliefs --- and I TRULY thank you for that. If you are reading this post then YOU MADE THE CUT (for better or for worse). And it means that I appreciate you as a friend, and that I care about you. And that I find value in our relationship. But to be truly honest about it, I also “Unfriended” some that were just plain irritating (think narcissistic, “selfies, and ignorant). Society as a whole is dysfunctional, and this is just my small way of distancing myself from the negativity and hate filled rhetoric. SFD
