I rarely post statuses on facebook, but this is something different. Aneri Patel died today in a car accident. Usually for me, situations like this are disassociated, through the incessant coverage by various news sites eager to get the biggest scoop. I got to know Aneri for a short while at Shopfront during Travel Songs. Because of this, I now realise there is a human behind every two-dimensional headline, and that she was not simply just another quiet girl, who sat at the back of the class, who never talked much at school, who was dedicated to study, and who happened to die today, just to be forgotten tomorrow. She may have been quiet, and she was shy, but she was also incredibly creative individual, whose talent will be missed among those who knew her. If there is a message to understand in a tragedy like this, perhaps it is the constant reminder that death is present wherever we go, and that our lives are temporary at best. However, when someone does pass, recognise that they too were once alive, and that they are better than a passing headline. RIP Aneri Patel
