I re-learned an important life lesson a while back as I watched some things unfold that I had no control over, or direct involvement in, yet indirectly affected me and others I know. I learned that in life we have chances, and we have choices. I learned that no one can force you to take a chance; no one can tell you to make the choice, but yourself. And when the chance is taken, the choices made, you must stand strong as waves of resistance chaotically crash around you. You must take the good, the bad, the ugly, the sad; you must take it all in stride, and you must find solace in the idea that you looked out for the only person you have to live with each day: yourself. Then, when the dust settles, and all you’re left with is the result, you must find hope. Hope that despite it all…everything will be ok. Wounds will heal, people will stay, people will go, time will move on. And with that hope, find peace. Because without peace, true peace, there will always be another chance and another choice popping up in every dark corner of your mind. Change is hard. Tough choices are hard. Life is hard. But more importantly: life is short. Live big.
