I read a book where this happens once, called The The Future Happens Twice - The Perennial Project Researchers build artificial wombs that can birth humans after sitting idle for a couple thousand years, they also make lifelike Androids that pretend to be the children s parents until they are old enough to understand their mission. They go through school and training years before reaching the destination, and finally pilot the craft and land it on an alien planet.
