I read a lot of blogs and I am on a lot of email newsletters but one of my fav is always Jason Ferruggia. Check out his email from today. I couldnt agree more. For 75% of the people in the world they need less carbs for fat loss, not less calories. Over the last 20 years + I have read so many books and tried so many Diets and they have all led me to the following. 1. Eat Less Carbs (esp. sugar) 2. Eat more protein 3. Eat more veggies 4. Drink more water 5. Take Fiish Oil 6. Train Daily With Weights & HIT Cardio Read this email from Jay below. Great stuff here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ive never believed in calories in vs calories out. A calorie is a calorie and taking an if it fits your macros approach is just stupid. A few of my colleagues believe that carbs are irrelevant for fat loss. All that matters is total calories. I know from over 20+ years of experience that this simply isnt true. And the diets of every physique competitor in history also point out this falsehood. But because they wouldnt see my side of the argument and because Im stubborn I decided to run a little test on myself. Id lower my calories and increase my carbs for thirty days. Im always above a maintenance calorie level but I cut them all the way down to maintenance. After ten days of remaining the exact same weight I lowered them even more. Finally the scale started moving about 16 or 17 days in. I was losing size but zero body-fat. If anything I was getting fatter. I continued for another two weeks just to prove my point. By the end my calories were the lowest they had been in years. The result was that I lost muscle and gained fat on sub- maintenance calories. To some this would sound hard to believe. But if you think about your mom, Uncle Larry or the average person who doesnt care about fitness at all youll find that many of them do the same thing. They have a roll for breakfast, often skip lunch and carb based dinner. Its not healthy but its sub-maintenance calories a lot of times. Yet they get fatter and fatter every year. The fact still remains that what you eat is critically important. When you eat it is also very important. If you eat 300 grams of carbs per day and spread them across five meals you will get fatter than if you have those same 300 grams of carbs around training and/or at night. Guys who live in textbooks dont want to believe this but its always proven true in my two decades worth of experience. So now, Im back to a higher protein, higher calorie, moderate (PROPERLY TIMED) carb diet and shedding the fat I put on during that 30-day experiment. As fun and cool as it may be to say that details dont matter, nothing could be further from the truth in this situation. Eat high quality food, improve your digestive health, reduce inflammation and time your carbs properly. Thats what The Renegade Diet is all about.
