I read from an unofficial source that Mirlande Manigat, the wife of former President Manigat, did not accept the visitation of President Martelly yesterday. I also found out from this same unofficial source that she does not accept for her husband a national funeral worthy of her his stature. If these elements of information are factual, Mrs Manigat has committed a terrible mistake for which she will be negatively judged. She will be viewed as a bitter, uncivilized, classless, uncivil politician who still clings to her politics of the past. Obviously, she has decided to take these ridiculous decisions because of her political positions vis-a-vis President Martelly. Mrs. Manigat should have known better. In a situation like this, regardless your political disagreements with President Martelly, you put politics aside to embrace humility, humbleness and civility. President Reagan and President Carter had some very strong and irreconcilable differences. But when President Reagan had died, I did not see his wife, First Lady Nancy Reagan, refuse from President Carter the respect and honor due to her husband. President Obama had run a brutal campaign against President Bush. But that did not stop them from being civil and respectful towards each other. See, thats the level of civility we have missing in our world of Haitian politics. Once again, Mrs. Manigat has proven who she is -a bitter, uncivilized, classless, arrogant and uncivil politician. She is still on campaign mode, and it has been 3 years since the president campaign has been over. She holds too many grudges. She needs to know it is time to let go. She has not failed to disappoint me once more.
