Science posted a bio of them, and I wanted to mention just one. Mbalu Fonnie was a nurse-midwife who had spent thirty years treating Lassa fever, a haemorrhagic fever very like Ebola. She specialised in the treatment of serious cases of the fever in pregnant women. She became infected while caring for another nurse who was infected with Ebola working at the hospital while pregnant.
