I read the draft of a novel by a friend into the wee hours last night. I woke up two hours later than usual. At 6 am Cider gave me a good morning kiss, beside himself. What took you so long? He said with his tail and body. Cant you see the grass is wet and beautiful outside? Out the door we fly, leash and plastic bag in hand, but I have no intention of leashing the fox red lab. Who is even up at 6 am on a Sunday morning? I am only half alive if I am not living dangerously, so there I am, barefoot, skating across patches of mud on sidewalk, Cider running here and there, deceived by a full size statue of a cat in the lawn of a neighbor, which he approaches and sniffs over as if it were real, to the delight of the neighbor who is out in a lawn chair. There are neighbors out at this hour, neighbors who know the meaning of wet and beautiful. In the eye of the Father who created me, In the eye of the Son who purchased me, In the eye of the Spirit who cleansed me, In friendship and affection. Through Thine own Anointed One, O God, Bestow upon us fullness in our need, Love towards God, The affection of God, The smile of God, The wisdom of God. The grace of God, The fear of God, And the will of God To do on the world of the Three, As angels and saints Do in heaven; Each shade and light, Each day and night, Each time in kindness, Give Thou us Thy Spirit. An example of Celtic spirituality, from the Carmina Gadelica, the Ortha nan Gaidheal, the Rune before Prayer.
