I really clearly may not be the de facto goth definition of the culture, but for honest, I think that so much of the concept is rooted in such heavy sarcasm with the tongue so firmly planted in the cheek that people assume the two organs are actually one and the same. I tire of goth royalty pretending that they own the thing and trying to make it super serious simply because they wore too much eyeliner before hipsters stopped shaving. Seriously, Ive been around. Ive done the thing. Ive been to goth clubs from NY to Seattle, and honestly... Your boots and pipe cleaner dread falls dont make you a defining personality of the goth culture... Neither does your Joy Division T-shirt, nor your Labyrinth era David Bowie button. You dont get to make up the rules for a thing that was built around eschewing rules. I get the sarcasm. I get the silliness. Its all good fun, and I am a firm believer in the best part of goth is being in on the joke...but liking a band before hipsters knew that they werent cool doesnt make you a god. Let the kids dance. Let the kids have fun. Stop thinking you can craft an empire of Could-Have-Been-Kings and their armies of Never-Weres. (If you get the reference, I will hug you for a good 15 seconds.) The only thing youre doing by pushing them away is creating another empty club that plays the music that you dont even really want to hear. Ya dicks. Love, Buddy godammed Revell Peace *mic drop*
