I really debated with myself whether to post this here or on my own page but decided here since it was inspired by this group and mostly Lafayette in general. I do not in any way mean to shame, insult, censor or instill any guilt, this is simply my observation today. I just went to run a few quick errands and when I left King Soopers, there was a woman holding a sign that read, living off kindness. She was a relatively young woman with an adorable dog at her side. I wanted to stop and talk to her, but was feeling rushed with my errands. My next stop was Vitamin Cottage where I had a very humrous, uplifting experience with a little boy and the cashier Russ, who some day will make a great Santa because of his joy-filled laugh and smile that lights up the world. Heading home past Eats & Sweets, I saw two young boys playing instruments on the Festival Plaza, cases open and again I wanted to stop to see what they were hoping to do with their treasure, but my pace was still too driven. As I turned onto E Simpson, I passed two older gentlemen having a discussion on one corner while across the street a young, very pregnant woman was talking with her toddler as they probably just left the WOW museum. I noticed the ever changing landscape of E Simpson thinking, my how things are changing. So whats my point? Each part of my rushed outing into our town showed me the threads of our community. The poor, the wealthy, the young, the old, the new, the past. Too often the threads of the tapestry that is our community are overlooked as we focus on one section of the scenery that applies to our own needs. The threads that bind us should not be transparent, but visible and nurtured. We are all necessary and need each other for true prosperity. I think back to the woman this morning with her sign...living off kindness. I am hoping to slow down a little, come out of my own little world and share more kindness. Perspective is everything and should be valued by all. I think Ill go back to meet the woman with the sign and the cute dog.
