I really did not want to say anything as I would be termed anti Buhari. I really wish Idiagbon is alive today, and then we will ask Buhari to come and claim all the sanctimonious achievements and postures he claimed to be his handiwork while he was the Head of State. I want this forum to know that it was Idiagbon that introduced WAI and not the other way round. During military bargaining of who should head the govt shortly before kicking out Shagari, all the military officers decided to go for Buhari as a core northerner to replace another core northerner, and most importantly because they saw Buhari as a safer choice as against Idiagbon who had an iron fist. Idiagbon agreed but insisted Buhari should remain the HOS while he runs the military govt through the Supreme Council. Mind you, the military govt runs the country through the SC. So, Idiagbon was more like the Prime Minister while Buhari was the figurehead President. That was the main reason that as soon as IBB got there, he made himself the military president (not HOS like Buhari) and incorporated all military power in his position. Can I also say that, it took OBJ, elder late Musa Yaradua who was the deputy to OBJ, MKO Abiola, Dantata and the king of Saudi, to convince Idiagbon to go for lesser Hajj just to get him out of the country so they could overthrow his government. If Buhari was the powerhouse and strong as they claimed, who should the coup plotters be aiming for? Buhari was just a gap-toothed always-smiling figurehead that could not control any GOC to a death-point loyalty. The coup was bloodless bcos the only henchman Idiagbon was deceived out of the country by Saudi King who gave him the highest level of invitation to Hajj that is only reserved for foreign royalties and president! Idiagbon suspected them as he thought that Buhari should have been invited instead. OBJ (after IBB his junior military friend has lied to him) went to Idiagbon to persuade him to honour the Kings invitation as it would not look good if he declined. Idiagbon agreed to go after trusting his figurehead boss who he has always seen to be too timid to hold on just for him to come back. The reason for the mistrust Idiagbon had in Buhari was the fact that he didnt see him as being strong enough for IBB, Domkat Bali, Mamman Vatsa and all the other corrupt military officers he has penned down for Oct 1st dismissal. IBB, Abacha and many others were penned down for firing squad for drug smuggling including one of Dantatas son that Idiagbon insisted must die like the others caught with him. If OBJ had known that IBB lied to him, he wouldnt have asked Idiagbon to go. They lied to him that Idiagbon wanted to wipe out all the northern military officers without following through proper tribunal investigation, and that he also wanted to kick out Buhari for not being strong enough to make difficult decision. OBJ who believed in the balance of power and wanted to be a Nationalist and a recognised elder statesman agreed to come in! If you remember that as soon as OBJ got to power in 1999, the first person he visited was Idiagbon, and he brought him to the public for the first time trying to reintroduce him to the public and make him the anti corruption boss. Remember that OBJ said he would step on toes in his swearing in speech, all his intents were planned around Idiagbon. Unfortunately, they got to him in his very first public outing since 1985. He only drank bottled water that he opened himself and he never recovered from that diarrhoea! People who arrogate too much holiness on Buhari have no clue on the real dealings in the military! It was at Abiolas house on Toyin Street during the naming ceremony of his child that the military top brass met in his house and $30,000 exchanged hands to prosecute the coup! Buhari knew nothing and had no military follower-ship like the others. If as a military leader, it was your second in command that was ruling and clipping the hands of corrupt military officers, who will be ruling the country if Buhari gets to be the civilian president? No wonder Tinubu has been subtly insisting that he be picked as the Vice President to Buhari. Tinubu surely knows what is in the offing! In fact, all the people clamouring for Buhari today will be massively disappointed and betrayed once he gets to that seat! I wish God could answer their prayer though I dont want it answered!
