I really should be in hog heaven! I mean, just think about all - TopicsExpress

I really should be in hog heaven! I mean, just think about all the amazing things that Ive seen - and will soon see - in the world of entertainment! We used to dream that there would be a serious Batman movie. For decades it was a pretty iffy dream. It seemed that Batman and Robin would forever be limited to the campy world of the 60s TV show. We didnt even seriously entertain the notion of a big budget X-Men or Avengers movie. That was just outside the realm of possibility. Had someone suggested that a Guardians of the Galaxy movie might be made ... well, wed have expected a punchline to follow what must have been some kind of joke. My favorite novel was finally given a respectful adaptation. When I was a teenager I had very little hope of The Lord of the Rings being successfully adapted to film. There was even a time when the idea of the original Star Trek ever being revived seemed like a pipe dream. Now weve got Iron Man, Thor, Captain America all established as independently successful movie franchises. People no longer ask if comic book movies are viable. We no longer wonder if people watch superhero movies. We only wonder which ones they are watching. Batmans Gotham City has gotten its own TV show. (Green) Arrow is going for a very successful third season. For goodness sake, even Luke Cage seems ready to burst through our big screen television sets! What next? I have hopes (which I try to keep realistic) for the upcoming superhero movies and TV shows. Id love to see The Legion of Super-Heroes done right. The Doom Patrol would make a great series, if they keep their feet firmly planted on the ground. Theres always a chance that Universal studios or Hammer Films will release some really good monster movies. Tarzan may even get another shot at greatness. Peter Pan will soon be coming to the silver screen again. Now, weve got this Popeye movie by Genndy Tartakovsky showing up on the horizon. I sincerely hope that it is great. I hope that the one eyed sailor gets the movie that he and Elzie Segar deserve. I will miss Popeyes trademark anchor tattoos, red hair, and his ever miraculously useful pipe, if they dont appear in the finished production. With all the cool stuff coming up in the next few years I shouldnt have any trouble finding something interesting to watch.
