I really was not going to touch this matter, but as Im sitting here writing yet another paper I felt compelled to take a break and say something. I in no way condone anyone being violent, but i also do not believe in idolizing sports figures, or anyone else in the spotlight. Ray Rice was WRONG. His wife was wrong...see the difference.. The difference being that he weighs almost twice as she and had the power behind that punch to kill her. I do believe Ray may feel remorse, and I hope he is seeking assistance from a DV program. I keep seeing posts stating folks are burning his jersey and never supporting the team again. Wow , really? Its football. Ughhhh...Im so tired of a society that holds sports figures and musicians to a higher standard than everyone else. A society that forgives the incomprehensible senseless violence of the police, but has no forgiveness for a Football player?? Give me a break! Again I do not condone violence. I firmly believe he was wrong, he should be reprimanded, treated, and helped. He should be dedicating hours of service and getting specific treatment from The House of Ruth, and Turnaround! I believe his wife should also receive some treatment regarding Domestic Violence. U know I brought my son a Ray Rice jersey, and had him sign a shirt for him, not because I found him to be this great, upstanding guy, but because hes a hell of a football player! Bottom line... he does not walk on water, he has faults, he used poor judgement, he is troubled, he has issues, hes human. Does he deserve to be punished, YES! is he a monster, hmmm?? kinda not up to me to decide that Ill let God handle the judgments. What i do know is that he does not walk on water...HE PLAYS FOOTBALL. Sooo eventually I would like to see him play again. I wish he and his wife well, and hope they work things out or let each other go. Ok. Im off my soap box and back to work!
