I recall voting for the very 1st time as an 18 year old. Went to the church on Brint near McCord. My mother was a pollster there, as was my Aunt Marie and Aunt Annie. My dad told me not to come home if I didnt vote. So I did my civic duty. I walked in and my mom asked me for an ID card...ummmmmmmmm? There wasnt a picture on my license in those days, but I guess she got me verified somehow. I voted to turn the Stranahan Estate into a system of parks---What is it called now? When my dad found out he was mad as hell and wanted to throw me out of the house. I had no right to vote for that (apparently) because I wasnt a property owner. I stood my ground against him and used logic to argue my point, which I of course won. Voting is not a right, but is a responsibility of all citizens. That means to research consequences of what you are voting for. Would I vote for those parks again? Sure would! It was worth every screaming moment to be a radical if only for a moment.
