I receive a phone call from ZAIKS - the Polish Society of Authors and Composers, dealing with copyrights. The person wants to make sure the information about one piece I use in a show is correct. Specifically, she has doubts about a song by Ladysmith Black Mambazo (this is an example of their work: https://youtube/watch?v=uiB6vT5HT3U). In it, LBM sing to the words of one of Shakespeares sonnets. According to the information she found on the internet, the author of the music was actually Igor Stravinsky. I explain that it is highly unlikely its the same piece of music as this is a choir singing traditional African music, unless Stravinsky made a short trip to Africa... or maybe LBM took his piece, but in that case I would have difficulty guessing (here is the Stravinsky: https://youtube/watch?v=93k7TId6Iqo). She says, ah, okay, but Im not sure if on this recording Igor Stravinsky, besides being the composer, was not also the performer.
