I received a letter in the mail today from the Native American Heritage Association asking for donations to help the people of South Dakota. Recently, a woman named Sarah Swift Hawk froze to death in her home from lack of funds to buy propane to heat her home. Any donations made will go to preventing people in reservations like Pine Ridge and Rosebud from catastrophes like this in the future. As some of you know, Native American Indian reservations in South Dakota are listed as some of the most poverty-stricken areas of the Western Hemisphere. It is impossible to grow food in the winter as average temperatures are often well below zero, causing many to starve and freeze to death. We need to help our fellow Americans in need.
