I received confirmation yesterday that Im unopposed for re-election to a second term on the Southwestern Community College Board. I look forward to four more years of working with my colleague Norma Hernandez (also unopposed) and hopefully Nora Vargas and Griselda Delgado (who wont know for sure who their opponents may be until this Wednesday), as well as Trustee Peraza (whose seat isnt up this year). I hope that in the coming term, we can finally exorcise the ghosts of a past regime and forge a purpose-driven partnership of Board, Administration, Faculty and Staff, dedicated to the education and success of our students. This will require of all of us, and especially the leadership of the college, to be mindful of the unfortunate past and avoid even the appearance of repeating its mistakes. As I stressed at my campaign event the other night, student success will be built on partnership with everyone involved with the college. I want to thank everyone who worked hard to prepare a campaign for this fall in case opposition had appeared, including my campaign chair Chuck Charter, internet and social media coordinator Sheenika A. Shah (Im personally writing this post, but much of what has been posted here and elsewhere for the campaign was her work), press coordinator Viridiana Word, precinct coordinator Ethan Blair, Michelle Krug who worked the front table at both our events, Gloria Casillas who was an amazing host for our event Friday night, Carmen Krogman who was prepared to organize a large part of our district for the campaign, volunteer coordinator Andy MacNeill, and our amazing treasurer, Lizzette Herrera Castellanos. I want to thank the citizens of the Southwestern Community College District for the awesome confidence so many placed in me four years ago which is being renewed this year. Most of all, I thank God for this amazing opportunity to serve our community.
