I received some negative messages from people regarding a previous post about Christmas boxes I was making for some of the children I work with. My post has been shared several times which is fine by me...these kids deserve to be known and not kept like a secret. However some have accused me of trying to garner attention for myself or making this up in hopes of collecting stuff to keep on my own behalf. For those questionning my intentions please know that I am passionate about working with children. I am not money motivated, certainly if I was then social work was a dumb career move but thats where my heart is. So in regards to my previous post.... I posted this personally on my page. It wasnt intended to garner attention but I am passionate about my kiddos and I often share what is going on in their lives as I work with them. I am an adoption specialist for child protective services out of texas. While our kids that are in foster homes usually receive gifts many children who are in temporary shelters or treatment centers will not receive gifts. Many people think oh you do adoptions, those are all the happy stories and prefer to sponsor children they feel are in a more dire situation. The truth is that 3/4ths of my case load is children whose parental rights were terminated years ago and they have waited in the system for 4 to 9 years in hopes a family will come along and choose them. These children have often been on the receiving end of the most horrific kinds of abuse...which is why parental rights were terminated. While they wait they have been shuffled from placement to placement. Thier ties to siblings and parents are severed and they have no permanent connections to anyone but myself. Can you imagine going through childhood with no one to say they love or care about you? Think about how that might feel. These are the children I am referring to in my post. I posted this not asking for anyone to share it but I thank those that have. Its an awareness that these children are out there thats so important to me. I didnt post this with the intention of making myself look good or asking for help because Im not allowed to ask for donations. I just posted it because my kiddos keep me humbled and grateful and it kills me as a mother in particular, to think any of the children I work with would greet Christmas day with nothing to show that even one person thought they were important enough to be thought of.
