I recently hung my first solo exhibit of photography at Chill - TopicsExpress

I recently hung my first solo exhibit of photography at Chill Vermont Gelato in Montpelier. I wrote this artists statement to accompany it and I post it here as an introduction to me as a photographer. I am a teacher with an artistic spirit, living a simple life in what seems to be an increasingly complicated world. My time surrounded by the beauty of our natural world, particularly in the forests and mountains, feels spiritual to me, sometimes deeply so. I find the views from atop one of Vermont’s pristine mountaintops overwhelming in their magnificence. I am similarly overwhelmed by the simple beauty of a dewdrop on clover seen from upon my hands and knees. In each case, it is the beauty of nature that draws me in, grounds me and brings to me a sense that we are all but a part of something greater than ourselves. It is that sense and feeling, and that connection to our natural world that I seek to capture through my photography. Too often, in rushing about this world we have complicated, we lose sight of the beauty that surrounds us. Beauty can be anywhere. If we try, we can find beauty in the words we use, in the relationships we nurture, and, when we are at our best, in the communities we create. Sometimes we lose sight, literally and figuratively, of the fact that we are connected to our natural world and are surrounded by its magnificent beauty. Capturing nature’s beauty through my photography reconnects me to our natural world. It provides me joy. To those who view them, my hope is for my photographs to engender a similar feeling of connectedness to our natural world. Have a peaceful, joyous, and beauty-filled Thanksgiving!
