I recently made a post on the subject of the Brown and Garner - TopicsExpress

I recently made a post on the subject of the Brown and Garner controversy. It created quite a stir for this fiscal conservative. I only wish I could get the same 237 comments on other local issues. Local charter school enrollment accelerated acceptance seems to have a way of squelching such public voices. Parents have a great sense of outspoken justice when on the outside, yet when embraced by those on the inside, they suddenly become mute. Ive witnessed it time and again over the past two years. I dont blame them. They see it as Survival 101. They pay no attention to the legal or Constitutional battles. Like any parent, their only concern is with the education of their pride and joy. After all, the BOE is responsible for that...and since they seem to be divided on the topic, what is the harm? Like so many, they were against it before they were for it. I get that. However, there is a larger legal issue looming here. Either 1) you dont get it. 2) you sort of get it but dont really care. 3) you fully get it but are a part of the problem. At some point our citizens will need to get off the fence. Either they will engage in the effort to improve and support public education...or they support selective alternatives. Keep in mind, I have no problem with alternatives as long as each BOE member is fully committed to the improvement of the schools under their jurisdiction and not divided in their commitment by alternative schools their own children might attend. Lets keep that in mind when we read subject matter on vindictive blogs.
