I recently requested internet service be established at a new location. I got the instructions for the connection. It read If you will not be present upon installation, anyone who speaks English and is above 18 years old can be there for you, as long as they have a copy of any of your valid ID and a letter from you, authorizing that person to be there on your behalf. I figured, not a big deal - Lorin looks just like me, speaks English and no one ever questions her using my stuff (ID included!). You know whats coming, right? Pre-installation phone call - not in very good English. Installer....does not speak English. What an opportunity to practice my French! Only problem is....he speaks - Spanish. I was very kind, I downloaded voice recognition on his smartphone and spoke French into it so he could read the text on the screen. Only mild giggle fits. Anyone who knows me - knows, this post is not about the language he spoke. Its about stupid rules that companies insist on taking the time to put in place, that they cant even follow. If I had a dime for every time Ive said be careful about putting that in writing...be careful what you ask for! Rules and policies are no good if you cant wont or dont follow them. I think hes on to me though....Cest la vie (resisting the urge to bust out in song...Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?..but dont tell my mother what that means, its just a song, Mom!) :)
