I recently rode a friends commute route with her, both going to work Furly in the morning, and her homeward commute, to see just how it stacks up to what I had been reading in news reports, from other people who ride more in that area than I do, and from my friends own comments. The trip home featured some of the most hostile traffic I have ever encountered. Im used to a few yells and honks here and there--usually on average of one in a couple thousand motorists who pass me make some comment that roughly translates to Bark!! Bark!! like the neighbors dog that barks at every person who walks down the street, including on the OTHER SIDE of the street. The hostility she faces on her trip home, every day she goes to work, is orders of magnitude worse than a reasonable society should allow. The road isnt dangerous. The sight lines are quite good, in fact. The only real danger is from the hostile and impatient motorists who lack any understanding whatsoever of traffic law as it applies to their interaction with cyclists. One highlight was a (probably) testosterone-poisoned lad who chose to roll coal on us. You know, to teach us a lesson. Or something. Of course, even had a law enforcement officer seen it happen, he would have been let go, since the police and sheriff department officers have bought into the county attorneys belief that a legitimate operator of a legal vehicle shouldnt be on their road, and their systematic harassment of my friend emboldens the testosterone-poisoned knuckle-draggers who know they can get away with harassment and assault. dailykos/story/2014/06/27/1310034/-The-new-red-state-fad-Spending-big-bucks-to-pollute-more?detail=facebook
