I recently took care of a patient who I became close with. A little over week ago I assisted him to sit on the side of the bed and unwrap his leg dressing for him, he then said thats a good place, to be on your knees. At first I was unsure if what he meant was something inappropriate, as he had never been before, I nervously laughed, he then said, honey, are you saved? I must have had a strange look on my face, I didnt know how to reply. I told him I had grown up in the Methodist church, I was baptized as a young child, attended Sunday school, sang in the choir, attended youth group and even went on a service mission to AZ when I was 17. I told him I no longer attended church and havent since moving to Ohio but for a few services. I told him I have lost my way over the years and really questioned my faith, I have seen such bad things happen, Ive endured so much heartache and loss in my life, why would he let these things happen if he loves me? He then replied, You are a child of God, and God has a plan for everyone. This patient of mine passed away on Sunday. I got an overwhelming feeling Sunday that maybe, just maybe this man was right. Maybe this is what my life has been missing all along. I feel like for the first time in my life I am ready to start my journey with the Lord. It is such an overwhelming feeling, that I really feel this is the right decision for me. It amazes me in just this short time, a patient had this kind of impact on me. I wish he was still here for me to tell him this, but as I write this Im sure he is smiling down on me from Heaven.
