I recently walked out onto my front lawn. And in broad daylight, looked towards the heavens and I shouted for all to hear, Lord, send me a sign. What am I supposed to do next? An ice cream truck overturned. Many died. No definitive answer. A few days later, I repeated my question. A prevailing wind from the east brought a swam of locusts, and famine. Many went hungry, and died....Please Lord, any sign at all. Then I turned on the Joel Osteen show and realized....I should become a televangelist. His perpetual grin showed me what no car accident or plague could, that I can simultaneously preach one thing, yet consistently do another. I can claim to be voice of the people, yet have entirely non-altruistic motives. Thank you Lord.
