I recently was presented with a situation to help find, and or provide housing for a homeless man that was in need of help. He was severely limping from soars on his feet from walking around all day and was only looking for temporary help till he could find work and better himself. I looked to find a shelter or some form of resource to help the man but to my dismay I found there is nothing in the local community. I had property that was not being used for anything so I feed him and let him sleep there for the night and recover. Assistance in looking for work was also given to him. This prompted me to investigate the public minutes of the city council to see what the local government considers a priority and where public funds are allocated. Should a community and its governing municipalities not have an obligation to help those in need who have lived and worked in the community? The man indicated he wanted to stay local and find work to get himself on his feet. The public minutes are vague but it does give a good idea of where and how much money is being spent on things and what is considered a priority. I do not feel I have enough collaborating evidence yet but I am going to continue to look into this and ask why of the city council when I am prepared to present my findings and discoveries. I feel it is a vested obligation for me to pursue this and if I do not I would be a hypocrite. The local community directory does say there is a shelter and food bank in the area but this is misleading as it is only a food bank and provides no shelter to homeless or those in need.
