I recently watched the Tivoli Enquiry and was really saddened by the fact that many of the witnesses were unable to interpret simple questions posed to them by different attorneys. There has been an intense debate since 2001 on whether Jamaica should made final legal appeals to the CARIBBEAN COURT OF JUSTICE or the JUDICIAL COMMITTEE OF THE PRIVY COUNCIL.Re;TIVOLI ENQUIRY--Although the Lawyers are Jamaicans there were serious communication problems. The Language barriers were so complicated despite the fact that this was our own judicial system. How then would we be able to handle the PRIVY COUNCIL as our final structure of appeal.I am of the view that the best thing for us is to unite with the CARIBBEAN COURT OF JUSTICE seen that the Caribbean shared a common History of Colonialism and slavery and therefore would have a better understanding of cultural exposition of cases presented.
