I recently watched the awareness video where the black dog is a metaphor for depression. I then read all the negative things people had to say about it and became extremely disappointed. The black dog has nothing to do with race or the fact that black dogs have a harder time getting adopted. The color black, by definition, is the absence of light (i.e Dark...hence dark cloud of depression). Also, the metaphor is an animal that is a constant companion. But if youd prefer a simple, FACTUAL answer, the black dog is a bad omen in quite a few cultures dating back to the 1700s. Why must we have so many personal battles and pick apart everything to the point where its not even relevant to the initial topic?
