I recognize that when many of you see my posts they may be misconstrued as anger, opposition or some other such nonsense. Those of you who know me know that is not the case. My commitments are such that I will not (writ large, yes Im human and have fallible steadiness in my emotions) generate unnecessary chaos in my own body, i.e. useless emotions. This is not the same as avoiding suffering. There is much suffering we must bear as humans, and to believe otherwise will only create more. I know that the only way i can stay committed to leaving this world a better place for our children is by keeping clear and focused, and bearing only the necessary suffering and grief and sorrow of letting go. Having said all that, I am intentionally sharing perturbing items- for the dual purpose of a.) creating a listening (per click) in the mainstream media for topics that I assert we all must value and attend to, and b.) perturbing your usual thinking. We have far too much of our society built on not-thinking, reactive thinking and honestly, complacency- avoidance of suffering (which is not true joy, btw). As a healthcare practitioner my job, inherently, is to help you attend more carefully to your body, so that the small symptoms do not cascade into further symptoms. This might mean that you felt fine and then I put a microscope to the fact that feeling fine included 3 advil and 4 glasses of whisky a day plus a blood pressure medicine…which yes, in one way is fine…and, in another way means were ignoring something that could easily progress into a much larger illness. Our social inattention is costing our body- our community body, political body, national body far too much and leading us further toward illnesses which cannot be healed, in which case it is also my job, as a healer, to recognize that death is indeed a part of life and that we can even be well- in the midst of our own dying and letting go.
