I refuse to allow my past, present, and future accomplishments to be lumped into a belittling, narcissistic, and ridiculous quantity called The Michigan Difference. Sure, Im proud of my school, as we all are proud of our own respective schools. But to think that my school is better than all others based upon things such as rankings, student performance, or statistical data is absurd. There is no such thing as The Michigan Difference, but rather, there is The Individual Difference. Everyone has his or her own potential that is a separate quantity from all other potentials. You cannot generalize a populations potential because it is unfair to judge one humans potential relative to another. Your school, your job, your friends and family, none of that define your potential, but you and the life choices you make do.
