I refuse to congratulate COPE Executive Director Sarah Beuhler for resigning because it is blatantly obvious that she is still lying to protect the COPE candidate and board members who orchestrated the developer donation fraud. This is like congratulating G Gordon Liddy for an honourable and comprehensive confession. I am sickened by the nothing to see here now I am hearing from the usual chorus of COPE apologists and am similarly sickened by the the real story is misogyny angle being peddled by some casting Sarah as the victim here. The choice of Sarah as the sacrificial lamb is clear evidence of a systemic misogyny hiding behind the ham-fisted tokenism of COPEs Left Front. But the victims are the voters whom COPE hornswoggled by perpetrating a massive public fraud on this citys electorate. Kudos to Derrick OKeefe and others who are, quite correctly, saying that this announcement doesnt begin to answer the questions Vancouver progressives have about these donations. That stated, I will cut Sarah some slack. Many in COPE have known that COPE has been failing to pay her (and its other employees) for weeks for the work they did in the final month of the campaign. I imagine that this fabricated confession has been extracted under duress by an exploitive employer who exacted this from a precarious worker in exchange for severance pay needed to cover food and rent. We are not seeing the denouement of a scandal, with the resignation of an allegedly incompetent Executive Director who acted alone. What we are seeing is that COPE has learned absolutely nothing whatsoever about the need to stop this greasy, amateur Nixonian horseshit and make a clean break with the 40,000 Vancouverites from whom they fraudulently obtained votes.
