I remember as a child waking up in the middle of the night and seeing my awesome Mom, Linda Allen, sitting at her desk doing her Music Copyist work. Youve probably never heard of this particular craft because it was made obsolete by the advent of computers. But my Mom, in addition to being a world-class violinist (she played in the Utah Symphony in the sixties), also worked as a Music Copyist in our home in California where I was raised. She never made a big deal of it, but to me it was amazing and really cool. A high level of expertise and dexterity were casually displayed as my Mom performed this work as a matter of routine. If people understood the complexity and perfection required for HAND-production of professional-level sheet music, they would be amazed. AND my Mom did it mostly in the middle of the night; she would be given, in the afternoon, a selection from a musical score written by a composer for a movie, and her job would be to extract and write out each of the instrumental parts, which would have to be finished and ready for the next mornings 8 a.m. studio recording session with the orchestra. Love you Mom and appreciate all the hard work you did, and do, for us!!
