I remember as a kid whenever I would stop over my Aunt Bettys - TopicsExpress

I remember as a kid whenever I would stop over my Aunt Bettys house. She would always be in the kitchen making her legendary sauce and Pasta Fa Zool and Rigatoni or some Italian dish. And she would always have her favorite music playing as she cooked. Unlike my other Aunts and Uncles who pretty much liked Perry Como and Jerry Vale and Frank Sinatra, Aunt Betty was a big Ornette Coleman fan. Along with Cecil Taylor and Albert Ayler. One day I asked her how she came to like such seemingly unlikely music for someone like her. She said You know what, sweetie. I enjoy innovative music. Music that pushes the boundaries to a new plateau. Music that takes chances with little concern for popularity. People always ask me what I put in my sauce that makes it so wonderfully different ? Well, it is the inspiration of listening to this music while I am cooking that gives me another slant on my cooking. Thats really interesting, Aunt Betty, I responded. Now, who is that playing now? Aunt Betty smiled and said Oh hes one of my favorites. Sun Ra. I listen to him when Im cooking Pasta Fa Zool.
