I remember back in the 1970s watching a couple of demolition derbies at the Ocala Speedway, a dirt track north of Ocala on the Gainesville Road. Then, Carolyn and I were on a shoestring budget, and an evening at the track was cheap entertainment. The track was west of 441; we lived in Anthony due east of the track but on the other side of 441. On a Saturday evening, we could hear the distant roar of the engines as we sat on our front porch. This 8 X 10 glossy photo is from the same era, but you are looking at a demolition derby held at the Sunshine Speedway in St. Petersburg. The photo was published on May 28, 1970, but the publisher isnt identified. A clipping of the cutline has been attached to the back: Demolition Derby Friday Night.
