I remember back in the days with Tom and Jerry & Scooby Doo what it was like to walk Jamaica Avenue. From like Elderts Lane to like 102. There was Lewis of Woodhaven one & Lewis two. Pops ice cream parlor back in the days when you want your friend ya yell or holla. There were no cell phones, kids & teens were never home, out at play or the Avenue wed roam. Or up at the park hanging at the Dome. Or on the handball courts at Franklin K. Lane. In the summer heat and sometimes pouring rain. Under the bleachers, girls with tight wet t shirt and revealing features. We never needed a real plan we just hit the Avenue and a places like Skis newsstand. There was Jasons toys for young girls and boys. Remember.. the..Haven Movie Theater. If there was something of music you were craving right next door was Rock Haven. Where Metal was always playing, and you couldnt hear anything anyone was saying. You either shopped Jamaica Avenue or you shopped on Myrtle. Remember Lane Pizzeria and the owner Alberto. There was Carlos and Sals where we ate & hung out with our pals. That was the other pizzas grub. For drink there was Mikes tavern & the Circus pub We were young and we had to learn our lessons, I remember being chased out of Dicks Delicatessen. And the crazy lady we gave so much s*** , the one screaming about Jesus & the apocalypse! Back then kids were more obnoxious, not rude. I remember shopping with my Mom at Key Food. And on the corner across the street a place for shoe repair. Never went to a barber on the Avenue, my mom always cut my hair. There was a phone booth on every other corner, phone calls cost a dime and not more than a quarter and with our friends we were tight with like concrete from mortar.!
