I remember in High school, when Coach Goudschaal spoke to the Team about the passion a Basketball player is suppose to feel for his craft, what makes a leader a leader and how important it is, to be working together to create big things. He pointed at me and in front of the whole JV and Varisty Team and said: Like the new guy Delgado, this boy actually sleeps with the ball and Im not joking! Well, he knew that because i stayed with Coaches family for a while but everybody looked at me and they first laughed but then got Coaches point. You dont play ball, you live it. You dont work to make money, you realize yourself and that should give you the life you imagine you want to have. By the way, I didnt feel embaressed at all. I grew up on a court in a small town in Switzerland where they played with more heart then Ive seen it on some courts in New York City. Dont get me wrong, NY is the place but damn, the way we played, from 10am till 3am just pausing to get food and water...EVERYTHING was Basketball. Our whole lives revolved around that orange rock! God, I slept on the asphalt of that Court to look at the stars using the ball as my pillow... That playground simply known as Allschwilerplatz, so quiet, so serene nowadays, inked and drawn by the echos of that time. Growing up, it has always been my goal to beat my younger brother in 1on1, that was a hard task and remains till nowadays. But that very will, really made part of me and influences the decisions i make to get the the things i want to achieve nowdays. Consciously and subconsciously. I dont know if life is about making the right or wrong decisions and choices but wheter right or wrong, at least it is for a progress. Long story short, these boys that grew up on that court really are made of different wood and i swear, I appreceated every single day and night with you on that ground.
