I remember my dad, very likely with a genius I.Q., with a sixth-grade education. He became a mechanic and then, later, a prominent businessman. He became successful, but I wonder. I see young brothers and sisters like the brother below, these shining examples of Black achievement, and Im proud of them. But I still wonder. I see what happened to Mike Brown and Vonderrick Myers and John Crawford and Eric Gardner and Trayvon Martin and Renisha McBride and the many thousands gone. And I wonder. Who should they have become? What dreams never came to fruition? How much higher could they have climbed? Americas racism is stunting its own growth. When it murders our youth, it is sealing its own tragic fate. Exhortations! Ancestors, protect this young man!!! (via Jenise Grice)
