I remember reading the holy Quran everyday and praying five times - TopicsExpress

I remember reading the holy Quran everyday and praying five times a day. I remember my mother was waking up early to pray and was crying as she prayed before my father woke up and beat her like he often did. I wondered every day about why Allah wouldn’t protect my mother. Wasn’t she praying a few moments ago, I would ask. Later, when I finally read the Quran in my own language, I learned that Allah allows men to beat their wives. I read many articles by Muslim feminists who argued that Allah didn’t allow beating but only leaving, but in Arabic “Dharb” means hitting. In addition to that, it is convenient how attention is given only to the punishments Allah allows and not to the “crime” the woman commits. The verse says, “if you fear disobedience from your wives, you may…” Why must women be obedient towards their husbands? Why must my father, who is always angry, never prays, and beats his children up, have the right to beat my mother, who is kind and loving? Why must my mother obey this daemon and not vice versa? I spent my childhood and teenage years thinking this over and over
