I remember seeing a vivid illustration in one of my grandmothers - TopicsExpress

I remember seeing a vivid illustration in one of my grandmothers The Upper Room booklets when I was a little girl. Jesus was sitting on His throne and people sat at His feet and rested their heads in His lap. He even held some in His arms. And beneath it was written Matthew 11:28. Come to me all who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest. Heavy-laden. As a young writer who loved weird and exciting words, heavy-laden stuck with me. As a child who witnessed the death of a parent, I was reminded of heavy-laden. As a rebellious teenager who found herself in more trouble than she was worth, I was reminded of heavy-laden. As a college student who didnt know what to do with her life and felt anxious and worried most of the time, I was reminded of heavy-laden. As a wife who failed miserably at showing compassion and kindness to her spouse and in return was racked with guilt, I was reminded of heavy-laden. As a mother who gritted her teeth at the child who walked slower than a turtle on sleeping pills to get in the car when we had to be somewhere in 7 minutes, I was reminded of heavy-laden. As a woman whose schedule was so cluttered that glimpsing at it nearly caused a panic attack, I was reminded of heavy-laden. As a friend who listened to her friends problems and could offer no good advice, I was reminded of heavy-laden. As a daughter who worried about her parents health and well-being, I was reminded of heavy-laden. As a writer who had run out of ideas with a deadline approaching, I was reminded of heavy-laden. As a dieter who ate a slice (two slices) of cheesecake and felt like a failure, I was reminded of heavy-laden. As a patient who didnt understand her physicians diagnosis, I was reminded of heavy-laden. As a mother who saw pain or sadness in her childs eyes and could do nothing about it, I was reminded of heavy-laden. Im often reminded of that word. Im often carrying a heavy load. But HE gives me rest. When Im overwhelmed sometimes, I close my eyes and repeat that Scripture. I picture myself as one of the people in The Upper Room illustration, resting peacefully in Jesus arms. And its impossible NOT to feel rested. Rest in Him. -Susannah
