I remember the first time I saw Joan Rivers on the Johnny Carson show. She was a hoot! She modeled a kind of rogue feminism that I had not yet named, but admired. She was the rascal I sometimes yearned to be. Ms. Rivers was a ground-breaker in her field, a successful woman in the predominantly male world of comedy in the 50s and 60s; her longevity in show-biz speaks for itself. Love her, hate her, she made us laugh. For the laughter, I am grateful. May God bless her family, and may she continue to make them giggle in heaven.
