I remember to have read an episode with reference to His holiness Chandra Sekhara Bharathi swamiji (Kanchi Kamakoti Peethadhipati) in one of the issues of Bhavans Journal of late 1960s or early 70s. Once (I am not writing thereligion of the person), a gentleman belonging to a religion, went to his holiness and said, I am very much impressed by your Hindu religion. I want to convert my self to Hinduism, Please initiate me into hinduism. Then Swamiji asked. Why do you want tojoin this fold. He replied Iam not satisfied with what is going on in my religion.. Swamiji askedDid you go to knowledgeable in your faith and discuss with them about your conceptions, reservations etc. He said no. Swamiji said you better go to topmost people , if necessary and discuss with them and If you are still dissatisfied, come to me... I shall do the needful Swamiji continued.. Do you believe God yes. Do you believe that He is always correct?.. yes. Then you accept that He wants you to be a follower of your religion and me to be a follower of my religion. Please go to great people who can authoritatively explain your philosophy and if you are not satisfied , please come to me again. After some time, the person came back to swamiji and said thank you Swamiji. I shall follow my religion only. Many of us read , not original texts, but translations and understand in our own way.; We here people with superficial knowledge , attracted many times with show and pomp: Understand them in ourown way and mix it with our own intelligence and question things accordingly. A comment is in order. individual practices are dictated, if we want to follow, by our family traditions. Elements of phillosophy that we accept are also because of elders. If we want to question followers of other faiths, as they are also ordinary,it is better go to top people, with a learners approach. One universal approach is PRAPYA VARAAN NIBODHATA. aS i SAW SOMETIMES POSTS related to RELIGIOUS MATTERS in FB, I thought of sharing my feelings.
